Your Town ‘N Country Plan at work!
Exciting things are taking place in the Town ‘N Country Community Plan Area. Your Plan is taking shape!
The construction of Town 'N Country Commons is underway!
The new Town ‘N Country Commons is scheduled to open in December 2008. The building looks better every single day. A temporary Library facility operates out of 5455 W. Waters Avenue, Suite 208, Tampa FL 33634
When completed, the Town ‘N Country Commons will contain a Head Start facility, Senior Center and the recently named Town 'N Country Regional Public Library. The Commons will also include the 2-acre Shimberg Gardens park with native landscaping, gazebo and tot-lot. The “Friends of the TNC Library” group is collecting funds for additional landscaping and irrigation. If you would like to help, please call the “Friends” at (813) 554-5033.
Hillsborough Avenue
The Hillsborough Avenue Overlay regulations went into effect in 2004, since then, the changes taking place along TNC’s main corridor are appreciable. An example of the Overlay regulations can be readily seen on the improvements undertaken by Buccaneer Square! Many new signs have also been replaced along Hillsborough Avenue after the regulations went into effect.
At the insistence of the Working Committee members, Hillsborough County budgeted $400,000 for the beautification of Hillsborough Avenue. Attempts to get matching funds from the State Legislature haven’t paid off yet. However, the Working Committee decided to use the $400,000 to develop a prototype beautification project along a portion of Hillsborough Avenue between Ambassador Drive and TNC Boulevard. This will be a first class project, and as additional funds become available, it could continue to extend along Hillsborough Avenue. The project is now in its design phase.
Paula and Ambassador Drives
Major improvements will be following on the heels of the construction of the TNC Commons. Both Paula and Ambassador Drives will be rebuilt, with improved drainage that includes curbs and gutters, wider sidewalks, enhanced landscaping, street furniture and traffic calming devices. In addition, a traffic signal will be installed at the intersection of Paula Drive and Hanley Road.
HARTline Northwest Transfer Center
At Waters and Sheldon across from the YMCA opened in 2008 and includes shelters, public restrooms, vending machines, drinking fountains, and a park-n-ride lot.
Sheldon Road Pedestrian Crosswalk
In order to improve connectivity between the Upper Tampa Bay Trail and the Town ‘N Country Greenway, a pedestrian crosswalk with hot button will be installed at Sheldon Road south of Waters Avenue.Click here to view the community plan.
